Adam Sandler is one of the biggest ironies in Hollywood… and he's mostly known for being a comedic idiot in films like Billy Madison and Happy GilmoreBut then he turns around and kills him in a deadly serious movie like Uncut gemstones. Considering that he followed that up with a barely watchable comedy Hobby HalloweenIt's official: We never know what we'll get from this great actor hiding inside a clown's body. Because of this uncertainty, I was pleasantly surprised that Sandler went out of his way to be serious about it astronauta bizarre sci-fi adventure in space that you can now stream on Netflix.
Adam Sandler in space
astronaut (Adapted from the novel by Jaroslav Kalvar Bohemia Spaceman) focuses on an astronaut heading off to a long-term space mission with some big luggage. He fell out with his wife, who was understandably upset that he had abandoned her and their unborn daughter to head for the stars. Amidst this satirical real-life drama, there's a new development: the astronaut finds a spider-like figure Alien With telepathic abilities, he wants to learn more about humanity. Their interactions help them both learn more about themselves and the universe, but neither of them is quite prepared for where this journey will take them (literally and figuratively).
Adam Sandler Headlines astronaut As the astronaut in question, he does a great job of channeling the complex emotions of a man who is constantly pushing forward even when he is constantly haunted by what he left behind. Among the stars is Carey Mulligan (who absolutely killed it Promising young woman and Maestro) as the astronaut's wife. Meanwhile, the sneaking alien who is telepathically linked to our main character is voiced Paul Danowho genre fans rightly love for his performance as the Riddler Batman.
Public reaction to the astronaut
originally, astronaut It was scheduled to premiere in 2023, but the SAG-AFTRA strike delayed its release until 2024. Once it debuted, almost no one knew what to do with it: Rotten tomatoesThe film received a critical rating of 50 percent, with most critics complaining that the film presents a number of interesting ideas without fully engaging with them. Meanwhile, the film received a Popcornmeter rating of 66%, with audiences generally agreeing that the film does a surprisingly good job of adapting a crunchy, complex novel for the silver screen.
Like the astronaut in the center astronautyou're probably wrestling with some uncomfortable questions right now, starting with why I'd recommend you watch a movie that only a few people have seen and critics didn't like. The first reason is Adam Sandler's performance: while the move isn't nearly as good Uncut gemstonesit's another strong example (somewhat similar Punch drunk love before) about how good this funny guy is when he decides to be a serious actor. Additionally, his extensive experience in both comedic and dramatic roles helps him sell a sad and serious film whose main hero is a talking alien spider.
Aside from the great offers, astronaut It's also worth watching for its (ironically enough) well-grounded themes. Franchises like Star Trek have made us celebrate those who want to leave Earth and explore the stars, but adventures Captain Kirk Captain Picard rarely touches on how all this interstellar travel affects their family members back home. Sandler's character is very compelling as someone who shares this common dream of space exploration but must deal with how the pursuit of that dream affects the person he loves most.
finally, astronaut It is one of the most thought-provoking films, but it is definitely worth taking this strange journey through the universe. Will you love the movie as much as I did, or will you want to put Sandler's out-of-this-world film out in the sun? You won't know until you watch, and with a little luck, your opinions won't be influenced by whatever telepathic alien spider you're hiding under the couch.
