Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, coach of Fenerbahce, has left the door open for a possible return to Real Madrid in the future.
The 61-year-old Portuguese coach previously led Real Madrid to win the Spanish League title, the King's Cup and the Spanish Super Cup during his three-year tenure from 2010 to 2013.
When asked about the possibility of coaching Real Madrid again, Mourinho expressed his admiration for the club while praising current coach Carlo Ancelotti.
“I will always be a big fan of Real Madrid. They have the best coach in the world, my friend Carlo (Ancelotti). He is in very good form,” Mourinho said.
“The future depends on what the president (Florentino Pérez) wants, whether he wants a young coach with high expectations like Xavi (Alonso) or continuing in the same line as Carlo, an experienced coach, or look at the youth section (Madrid reserve coach) with Raul or ( Madrid youth team coach Alvaro Arbeloa, it depends.”
Xabi Alonso, the former Real Madrid midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen coach, is considered a strong candidate to eventually succeed Ancelotti if the club decides to part ways with the Italian.
The contract of Ancelotti, who is now serving his second spell at Real Madrid, runs until June 2026.
The veteran coach, 65, continues to guide Real Madrid to success, including a 3-2 win over Atalanta in Tuesday's Champions League match.
Mourinho remains confident that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez will make the right decision regarding the future leadership of the club when the time comes.
Mourinho added: “Florentino (Perez) did not make many wrong decisions in Madrid.” “I am sure as a Real Madrid fan that his next decision will be the right one.”
Mourinho has been coaching Fenerbahce since last June, and took over the position six months after his departure from Roma.
As speculation continues over Real Madrid's future coaching options, Mourinho remains an admirer of the club he once managed and is willing to support any direction they choose.
