Al-Shami is out of action due to a knee injury
Muhammad Al-Shami Was excluded from Border Gavaskar Trophy Due to swelling in the right knee. Shami will not participate in the remaining two Test matches against Australia. The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry confirmed the decision after Al-Shami regained his fitness. Due to the burden of bowling in recent tournaments, his left knee swelled. His recovery is being closely monitored by the BCCI Center of Excellence.
“Based on the current medical evaluation,… Bank of Credit and Commerce International The medical team determined that his knee required more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads. Hence, he was not deemed eligible for consideration for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The case came to light during Shami's participation in local cricket. He bowled 43 overs in the Ranji Trophy and 9 overs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Despite extra bowling sessions to regain match fitness, his left knee showed swelling, prompting caution.
Increased workload
The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry explained that the workload on Al-Shami increased significantly after he recovered for a long period from the previous injury. The medical staff extended his rest period and controlled his exposure to the intensity of the match.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma had previously requested updates from the National Cricket Academy regarding Shami's progress. The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed that Al-Shami needs to build strength gradually, ensuring that he does not suffer any setbacks in his physical fitness for the upcoming matches.
Border Gavaskar Trophy
The Test series between India and Australia is tied at 1-1. Both teams won their single matches and the third Test recently played in Brisbane was declared a draw. Shami's presence was much needed for Team India. According to the Indian bowlers' performance was not up to the mark in the pink ball Test in Adelaide. Jasprit Bumrah was holding his own in the pace attack. The efforts of Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana were no match for Bumrah's bowling prowess and India were struggling to take the wickets of the Australian batsmen. This led to Australia's crushing victory in the second Test.
India and Australia are gearing up for the Boxing Day Test that will start on December 26. It will be interesting to see how the Indian pacers will dominate the Australian batsmen and secure their place in the WTC finals.
