Mohamed Salah said Sky Sports He is still “a long way away” from agreeing a new contract with Liverpool after his man-of-the-match display in the 5-0 win over West Ham.
Salah continued his distinguished campaign by scoring one goal and assisting two more at the London Stadium, giving coach Arne Sloat's team an eight-point lead at the top of the English Premier League.
Salah now tops the list of English Premier League players in terms of scoring goals and assists this season, with 17 and 13 respectively, but his future remains uncertain as he enters the final six months of his contract.
Salah said when asked if he was closer to sharing a positive update on the new deal Sky Sports“We are far from that.
“I don't want to put something out in the media and people start saying things, but nothing really happens.
“Now I'm focusing on the team and I hope we win the Premier League.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk's contracts are also set to expire in the summer, but Salah's impressive form this season makes his future the biggest concern for fans.
Sunday's game was the eighth this season in which he has scored and provided assists, already the most goals for any player in a single season in the Premier League.
He has also reached 30 goal contributions in just 18 Premier League appearances – the fewest of any player in the history of the competition.
“I'm just trying to enjoy the game,” he added when asked about his continued improvement.
“I was a bit disappointed with some of the shots I missed today but I came here for the result. I'm always hungry for more. I hope to score more next time but the most important thing is for the team to win.
“The only thing on my mind is that I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of it. I will do my best to win the title.”
“We are in the right direction but there are other teams trying to catch up with us. We just need to stay humble and move forward again.”
