An Israeli air strike on a camp housing displaced families in the southern Gaza Strip killed at least 11 Palestinians, including the commander of the Hamas-run police force in the Strip, medics said.

It was also reported that three children and two women were among those killed in Al-Mawasi, west of the city of Khan Yunis.

The Hamas-run Interior Ministry condemned what it called the “assassination” of Police Director General Mahmoud Salah and his assistant, Hossam Shahwan, who it said “performed their humanitarian and patriotic duty.”

The Israeli army said it was studying these reports.

The army declared the sandy strip of land along the coast in Al-Mawasi a “humanitarian zone” for Palestinians displaced by the war with Hamas. But it attacked it repeatedly, and accused Hamas activists of hiding among displaced civilians.

The recent cold, wet weather has worsened conditions in the temporary camp.

Last day, there were also deadly Israeli air strikes on a suburb of Gaza City, north of Jabalia, and in Bureij in central Gaza – from where the IDF said rockets were fired into southern Israel at the beginning of the week. New Year.
