Manchester United will be without midfielder Mason Mount again for “a number of weeks”, with new manager Ruben Amorim promising to help the Englishman's recovery.

Mount came off 14 minutes after United's 2-1 win over rival Manchester City last weekend, and missed the defeat to Tottenham on Thursday in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The former Chelsea player missed four months of last season due to a calf injury and played only 12 games this season due to multiple setbacks.

Asked how long Mount would be out before Bournemouth's visit on Sunday, Amorim said: “Several weeks.

“I don't know the exact date but he will be out for a long time. In that sense, he is part of football and we are continuing.

“What I can do is help Massey and teach him how to play our game when he recovers. Try to use this time to think about different things, and then I think the worst of it is that we don't have time to train like we should when you're recovering from so many injuries.

“We are always travelling, we have matches, so in training the whole team is not together and it is really difficult to recreate the game before they come to the match. It is really difficult for a player to be out for a long time and he is trying hard.”

Luke Shaw will also not be available for Bournemouth, but Marcus Rashford is in contention.

Amorim once again left Rashford out of his squad for the midweek clash with Tottenham, which was purely a “selection” but it happened 48 hours after the United academy product declared himself “ready for a new challenge”.

Asked whether the omission, after Rashford also missed the win over Manchester City, was for disciplinary reasons, Amorim said: “No, it's the same thing guys, the same thing. Exactly the same thing.”

Asked whether Rashford might face Bournemouth, Amorim said: “Yes, of course.”
