While crafting the track, Carey hoped it would become a holiday classic.
“My goal was to do something timeless, so it didn't feel like the '90s when I wrote it,” she added.
Now, 30 years later, the song remains one of the most popular songs of the season, which Carey attributed to the fact that she “really, really” loves Christmas. “It's not fake,” she stressed.
Despite her genuine love for the holiday season, she said in an interview in November New York Times Carey has revealed that her 1994 Christmas album almost didn't happen.
“I felt like it was very early in my career,” she told the outlet.
In the end, Carrie's love of the holidays won out and she eventually became known as the Queen of Christmas.
This year, Carey took her appreciation for the season to the next level by embarking on a 16th date Happy birthday round one and allwhich made several stops across the United States and Canada from November 15 through December 17. (Her 2023 holiday tour consisted only of four shows in Toronto and New York City.)
Mariah Carey has already decked her halls, but plenty of other musicians are getting into the spirit of the season with original holiday songs this year. “Last year, we didn't go all over the country,” she told ABC News. “So this year we're doing that.”
Carey hoped the tour would give her fans “the most amazing Christmas” while also allowing them to enjoy “being together.”
She went on to say that new music is “on the horizon,” hinting that she has recently been “writing new songs” and spending time in the studio “working on something with the choir.”
