Arsenal are reportedly pursuing a deal to sign 18-year-old midfielder Saphir Nyban from Rosenborg, who is set to travel to Manchester City's campus for talks.

Sports report Those negotiations are progressing between the Gunners and the player's representatives, but no deal has materialized yet.

Regarded as one of Europe's brightest young prospects, Nypan has a fast trajectory. He made his Eliteserien debut at just 15 years old. He then went on to become the youngest goalscorer in the Rosenborg League in May 2023, at the age of 16 years and 145 days.

Manchester United were thought to be ahead of the raceBut now it looks like they won't sign the youngster.

It is believed that Arsenal view him as someone who can contribute to the first team straight away, even though he is in his younger years. Mikel Arteta's squad has been stretched thin by injuries this season and the Spaniard is looking to bolster them with additional depth.

If Nypan joins Arsenal, he will link up with Compatriot Martin Odegaard. It also means Manchester United would have missed out on the chance to sign the teenager who has been widely linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Interim sporting director Jason Ato'o took charge of recruitment after stepping in After Edo's departure in November.
