Police have identified the suspect as 42-year-old Shamsuddin Jabbar, who was pronounced dead at the scene after an exchange of gunfire with local law enforcement.
The FBI is working to determine the subject's “possible ties and affiliations with terrorist organizations,” after an ISIS flag was found in the truck. Weapons and a possible explosive device were found inside the suspect's car.
The office added that other potential explosive devices were also found in the French Quarter.
Officials initially said other suspects may have been involved in the attack, but the FBI clarified Thursday that they believe Jabbar acted alone.
