Leicester City are reportedly preparing to end Odsonne Edouard's loan from Crystal Palace during the upcoming winter transfer window, as the club seeks to reshape its squad under new coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The French striker, who joined the Foxes on deadline day this summer, has struggled to make an impact at the King Power Stadium. With limited appearances and no major contributions to his name,… The club is considering cutting off its mission short.
according to Leicestershire LiveLeicester's decision to part ways with Edouard stems from his disappointing performances and the need to free up a place on domestic loan. Premier League rules prohibit clubs from only having two players on loan from other top-flight teams at a time, and Leicester are keen to utilize these openings more effectively.
Edouard's stats this season reflect his struggles, as he has made just two appearances in eight appearances in all competitions and has no goals or assists to his name. He has recently found himself left out of matchday squads altogether, further highlighting his marginal role within the team.
Ruud van Nistelrooy wants to get rid of Odsonne Edouard
Since taking charge in November, Van Nistelrooy has been clear about his intention to improve Leicester's side amid the relegation battle.
The Dutchman pointed to the fierce competition in the strikers' department, as club legend Jamie Vardy and Zambian international Patson Daka are ahead of Edward in the strikers' rankings.
He recently said (as quoted from him Leicestershire Live):
“Obviously we have three number nines, with Jamie (Vardy), with Batson and with Edu. In every game, there are decisions to be made about the points you bring into your team.
“I will look at how many players I need in each position and so far I have chosen Jamie and Batson. But he is fit and training and can change every week.
“That's a fair enough point (about Edouard getting a loan place).” Obviously, players need to have perspective. Right now, with Odsonne's situation, we have to deal with that more closely. “It's something that's on the table for us to look at.”
The potential end of Edouard's loan could pave the way for new reinforcements in the January window, as Leicester look to bolster their attacking options. The Foxes' precarious position in the Premier League table has made the winter transfer window crucial to their survival hopes.
Leicester will need to work with Crystal Palace to finalize the early termination of the loan agreement, but the move is consistent with Van Nistelrooy's vision of building a more competitive team.
While Edouard's time at Leicester appears to be coming to an end, his departure could mark the beginning of a pivotal phase in the Foxes' season.
With a renewed focus on improving the squad and new signings on the horizon, Van Nistelrooy will hope to guide the club out of its current struggles and towards a stronger end to the season.
For Edouard, the early end to his loan spell represents an opportunity to reset and perhaps reignite his form again at Crystal Palace or elsewhere.
