A strong majority of Americans think so President-elect Donald Trump The United States will get a grip on illegal immigration, with the president-elect eyeing a historic mass deportation campaign and additional border security measures when he takes office this month.

Gallup reconnaissance The poll released Thursday found that 68% of Americans expect Trump will control illegal immigration. Only 28% of those surveyed said he would not do so.

Trump has made tackling illegal immigration a cornerstone of his presidential bid, at a time when the country is suffering from a historic migrant crisis at the southern border.

“We will fix our borders,” he said after winning the election in November. “We will fix everything about our country.”

Trump promised to launch “the largest domestic project Deportation process In American history.”

The former president also promised to invoke the Alien Enemies Act to “remove all known or suspected gang members, drug traffickers, or cartel members from the United States” and shift law enforcement to immigration enforcement. He also promised to resume construction of a wall on the southern border. Construction began in his first administration but has been largely halted by the Biden administration.

Other issues that respondents believe Trump will succeed on include reducing unemployment (60%), keeping the United States safe from terrorism (60%), improving the economy (58%), and keeping the country out of war (55%).

A majority also believes Trump will lower taxes, lower the crime rate and “increase respect for the United States abroad.”

However, those surveyed were less convinced that Trump would improve health care (40%), improve the environment (35%), and heal the country's political divisions (33%).

Fox News poll I found in December that a majority of voters were enthusiastic about the incoming administration. At least half said they were optimistic (54%) or relieved (50%), and just under half felt excited (48%).

The survey found that the economy remains the most important issue (34%), followed by immigration and border security in second place (21%). No other issue reached double digits, including abortion (7%), which was the top case all year.
