Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun Explore romance as AI machines learn how to express emotions in her new film, Love me.

The film, which hits theaters on Friday, January 31, follows Buoy (Stewart) and a satellite (Yone) as they inherit Earth after humanity's extinction. With only the Internet as their guide, the two learn what it means to be alive — and in love.

The trailer, which was released by Bleecker Street on Wednesday, January 1, sees Stuart floating in the ocean as she comes online and begins to learn what it means to be “human.” Blackjack comes across online uploads of a beautiful woman – also played by Stewart – and chooses to recreate herself in her image. He then contacts Yeun's satellite in the sky and offers to be “friends.”

“We can be friends! Pick a face. How about this one?” The buoy asks the satellite when it lands on Yoon's image. The duo then create a universe for themselves to exist in human bodies.

“How does it feel to be alive?” Yoon thinks as he and Stuart kiss, eat ice cream, and get to know their new faces. “Have you ever thought how wonderful it is that we found each other?” Stewart asks. Flashes of life's milestones — like date nights, pregnancy and childbirth — flash across the screen.

“Life is full of rainbows and light. “It's intense,” she continues as more social media shots of humans play and Stewart holding a puppy in her arms. “I'm not even a floater anymore. I'm just me.”

“We have become who we are,” Yoon adds. “I want to be us.”

Love Me had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, where it received the festival's Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Award, an honor given to an outstanding title focusing on science or technology.

For her part, Stewart received the Vision Award at the event. While accepting the award, the actress opened up about why she was drawn to it Love meWho dares to “jump down the throat of identity.”

“Every five minutes we can fluctuate, and the overriding echo is that if we kind of inhaled the internet, and if we all died right now and our imprint was this kind of echo of disparity, I would do that, 'Be proud of it,'” she explained. “Like, love me. We just want to be like, can you see me? What am I? Am I anything? Am I special? I don't know. Do I deserve love? I don't know.' It's a film about identity and it changes every 30 seconds, every millisecond, just the words pasted on it, the kind of feelings and images pasted on the identity. They are constantly changing.”

Love me The film marks the debut feature from directors Sam and Andy Zuchero and aims to explore artificial intelligence and identity through live action, animatronics and classic animation in an epic tale of connection and transformation. The film is produced by ShivHans Pictures, 2AM and AgX. : Daniel Beckerman, Christine D'Souza Gelb, Connor Flanagan, Jason Netter, Heather Potok and Anna Junger Serve as executive producers.
