Kilauea volcano, on Hawaii's Big Island, began spewing new lava at around 02:00 local time (12:00 GMT), according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Officials say there is no immediate danger to residents because volcanic activity is currently limited to a limited area in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

They warned that the most immediate threat is volcanic smog that could reach populated areas downwind.
