Keshawn Davis has reiterated that he will not fight his friend Shakur Stevenson, but is open to an exhibition match, “YouTube style.” He says people will want to watch him and Shakur fight in an exhibition after they clean out the 135 and 140 pound divisions.
The “exhibition” excuse.
For fans to be interested in watching an exhibition match between Keyshawn and Shakur, they would have to become popular with casual boxing fans. Unfortunately, neither fights good opposition for attention.
WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) is routinely booed by fans in his fights, and Keyshawn has been selectively matched by his promoters at Top Rank throughout his three-year career.
Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) is huge for the 135-pound division, and he will have to move up soon as he looks like a hard-boiled welterweight in his lightweight fights. He is scheduled to challenge WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) on February 14, 2025, at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Perincic is considered the weak link among the champions at 135, which explains why Keyshawn is facing off against him. He is the only one capable of defeating him. Even then, this is a 50-50 throw up because Perinczyk is a much better fighter technically.
One thing Keyshawn has going for him is his tremendous youth Welterweight sized frameand being side A. The last item might be enough to win Keyshawn over. If Keyshawn had to fight where he belongs at 147, he would face him, face Jaron 'Boots' Ennis and get punched through him.
I don't know how Keyshawn can melt down from welterweight. Younger fighters can drain their energy without it hurting them, but eventually, they can no longer do that when they reach their late 20s and early 30s. Until then, they are gaming the system. If every sanctioning body had strict hydration limits of 10 pounds, they would cancel Weight bullies.
“When the time is right”
“They keep asking me to fight you. We can do an exhibition. This is what we can do,” Keshawn Davis said. Social mediaHe talks about his fans wanting him to fight his friend Shakur Stevenson.
“We can go YouTube with these guys pretty quickly. Who wouldn't watch it? And they're still watching the show. They're still watching it. 'We go to these idiots' show when the time's right, and I'll tell you when the time's right,'” Keshawn continued, talking about his desire to set up a Gallery with Shakur. “You'll be like, 'Yes.'”
“We're going to show these mothers and move up in weight, and then do the same thing. We're about to clean up the (lightweight) division and move up in weight. How mad are you?
“Mann and Shakur are going to beat everyone up. We just beat everyone up, go up in weight, and never fight. Then, do it again at 140. That would be absolutely ridiculous. Hit all your favorite fighters. They’re going to be sick as hell,” Davis said. .
Keshawn won't be able to beat everyone at 135 years old, not even his friend Shakur. Look at the way Keyshawn picks and chooses his opponents. He won't go After which of these talented fighters:
– Raymond Muratala
-Andy Cruz
-William Zepeda
-Edwin de los Santos
Keyshawn, 25, will likely soon leave the 135-pound division without trying to fight any of these guys because the chances of him losing would be too high. He was nearly beaten by Naher Albright last year on October 14th. Albright stunned and dominated Keshawn in the final four rounds, wearing him down with pressure like Andy Cruz did in the 2020 Olympics.
The myth of the “top three”.
Fans already know the top three dogs have the same idea of who the top three dogs are in the 135-pound division. “I'm okay with my position in this category at 12-0,” Keshawn said, believing he is one of the top three fighters in the lightweight division.
“Best 135 lbs is light skinned (Gervonta 'Tank' Davis', me and Shakur,” Keyshawn said. Top 135 lbs. Come on bro. Call a spade a spade.
Keyshawn is getting ahead of himself in talking about being a top-three lightweight as he has yet to defeat any contenders in the 135-pound division.
He is not even close to being one of the top three lightweight fighters as he will need to beat contenders to get to that level. Keyshawn hasn't even fought a single opponent. He was protected by Top Rank in the same way that Edgar Berlanga was when he was with that company.
Keyshawn's best wins
– Gustavo Lemos: Non-compete, eliminated for loss
– Miguel Madueno: Non-competitor, second division
– Nahir Ebreit: The same thing
-Jose Pedraza: Record of 0-2-1 before the fight
– Anthony Yigit: Not competing
He's working hard to fight the young, lightweight welterweight Gustavo Lemoswho was coming off a loss to Richardson Hitchens and had to go down from 140 to fight Keshawn on November 8th.
Why did Kishon choose a short man, Lemos, who fights at 140 years old, after defeat, as his opponent? I have a good idea. This was old-fashioned cherry picking. When a fighter chooses someone from a higher division to join them to fight, it is to gain an advantage because the man is weak. It's sneakyBut it works.
Casual fans or people who don't have the ability to think critically and can't put two and two together are surprised to discover that they are being scammed. Kishon could have fought his invaders four times, Cuba Andy CruzWho beat him in the 2020 Olympic finals and refers to him as “my son.” Cruz volunteered to fight Kishon, but chose Lemos. What does that tell you?
