Gunmen in Mexico shot and killed a judge outside a court in the city of Acapulco.
Judge Edmundo Roman Pinzon was shot at least four times as he drove out of the courthouse parking lot Wednesday afternoon local time.
He was one of the senior judges and was president of the Supreme Court of the state of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located.
The murder comes amid an escalation of deadly attacks on officials in the violence-torn southern state.
Police spoke to eyewitnesses and collected CCTV footage from the scene of the killing, but so far no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
Security forces also intensified their activities in the tourist city to arrest those responsible.
Local newspaper El Sol de Acapulco reported that the judge was in charge of the court that deals with murders, kidnappings and car thefts.
The possible motive behind the murder is not yet known.
The governor of Guerrero state said the crime required “immediate justice.”
The judge's killing is the latest in a series of extremely violent attacks in Guerrero over recent weeks.
Last month, the bodies of 11 people, including two children, were found inside a car in the town of Chilpancingo, 100 kilometers north of Acapulco.
Acapulco, once a popular beach resort, has been plagued by rival gangs fighting for control of the city's drug market – sometimes leaving mutilated bodies on the beaches.
