Turki Al-Sheikh wants to see a fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder next. It's a fight that will attract a lot of interest from fans around the world even though both former heavyweight champions are well past their primes.
Joshua Wilder is a fight the boxing world has wanted to see for the past decade, but the two were never able to come to an agreement together. Deontay's right hand looks like An old landmineBuried in the ground for 60 years, but still dangerous. If Joshua releases Deontay's right hand, he'll fall asleep.
Wilder's career has fallen to a lower level than Joshua's, but both are pretty much on the same level. Joshua (35 years old) was defeated in five rounds by International Boxing Federation heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois on September 21 in London.
Turkish plan
If Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) comes through with that fight against former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs), Turk wants him to fight contender Martin Bacolli in Africa. He will be fighting Bakoli Efe Ajagba in his next fight.
“I want to see Joshua and Wilder now. If Tyson isn't available, why aren't Joshua and Wilder available?” Turki Al-Sheikh said talkSport Boxing About wanting a fight between Deontay Wilder and the recently beaten Anthony Joshua.
He added: “We have finished the fight between Bakole and the Nigerian fighter Ajagba. Next we want to see Joshua vs. Bakole. Me, I want to see this fight. Do you know where I want to see it? I want to see it in Africa.”
Wilder has a confidence boost against Curtis Harper on April 26 on BLK Prime in Atlanta. Considering how bad Deontay has looked in the past five years, you can't rule out a win for the 36-year-old Harper.
Turk hasn't said if he'd still be interested in using Deontay as an opponent for AJ if he gets beaten by Harper, but you have to assume that would disqualify him. Wilder's record would be 1-5 in his last six fights.
It's bad enough that Deontay has lost four of his last five fights, but a loss to veteran Harper would be a clear signal that he doesn't deserve to be used as a rival to Joshua.
