Reserve batsman and Australian wicket-keeper Josh Inglis He was ruled out due to a mild calf strain. He picked up the injury while playing during the fourth Test at the MCG, which means he will miss the final Test against India in Sydney. Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed the news and said it would carefully manage Inglis' recovery with an eye on the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka.

It was Inglis Australia Only reserve batsman in the team on day three after Beau Webster was released from the allrounder Big bash league (BBL) Duties. Sharing sub-field responsibilities with Sean Abbott, Inglis picked up the pressure. CA have officially released him from the squad, although he is unlikely to play in Sydney barring an injury to the XI.

Inglis' BBL participation in Jeopardy

The injury is a major setback for Perth Scorchers, Inglis' BBL side. He has already appeared in two matches against the Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades, playing between the third and fourth Tests. However, with just 22 days left to recover before the Australian Test squad departs for the pre-tour camp in the UAE, his immediate availability for the BBL remains in doubt.

CA's priority is to ensure Inglis is fit for the two-Test series in Sri Lanka, starting January 29. Given his skill against spin, Inglis is a strong candidate to make his Test debut as a specialist batsman for Galle. The recovery timeline will be closely monitored to maximize preparedness.

Replacement announcement pending

CA is yet to announce the replacement mixture for the Sydney test. Nathan McSweeney could return to the team due to his versatility, despite being ruled out ahead of the Boxing Day Test. Webster, despite being released for the BBL, remains on standby and available if needed.

Australia's fast bowling reserve remains strong with J Richardson and Sean Abbott remaining with the team. Concerns over Mitchell Starc's back discomfort were eased during Day 3 after the player was declared fit to play. However, he was not needed as Australia quickly wrapped up India's first innings.
