James Woods thanked first responders in posts shared online for keeping his community safe before evacuating his home as flames from the Palisades Fire raced through the hills in his backyard.

Woods, 77, took photos of the massive fires as he evacuated. The wildfire broke out Tuesday morning in the Pacific Palisades area Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Fire Department Officials confirmed that the Palisades Fire broke out just after 11 a.m. near the southeast side of Palisades Drive. Evacuation orders were issued as the fire expanded to about 200 acres.

“We are blessed to have the Los Angeles fire and police departments do their jobs so well,” Woods wrote. “We are safe and out. There are several elementary schools in our area and there was a massive community effort to evacuate the children safely.

“I can't speak more highly of the Los Angeles Fire and LAPD.”

The video posted by Woods appeared to show flames burning on the hillside near the home. It is unclear whether the property in the video was damaged in the fire.

“I hope everyone gets out safely,” he wrote in another post, showing thick smoke covering the sky.
