Right now, comic book fans are a little divided on whether or not the DC Universe (DCU) will be a success. Some believe it will be able to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in popularity, but others worry that it will repeat most (if not all) of the mistakes that sank the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). However, some recent casting news gives us some great hope that this upcoming cinematic universe will be, at the very least, more accurate to the comics. Now that James Gunn has gotten the green light for Jason Momoa to play Lobo Supergirl: Woman of TomorrowIt effectively fixed the DCEU's biggest casting flaw.

Momoa wasn't the right Aquaman

Momoa has, if we're being honest, always been the weirdest part of the DCEU. For example, actors like Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot have always looked perfect because their on-screen appearance reflects (more or less) the comedic portrayal of their characters. AquamanDespite this, he was always a stubborn and regal king in the comics, but the DCEU turned him into a mostly reckless party man who only existed to smash beers and scream obscenities. James Gunn clearly wants a more comic-accurate cinematic universe, and Jason Momoa is the perfect choice for the character of Lobo because, quite frankly, his King of Atlantis already acted in a way that was very similar to this one in Raw. Alien warrior.

However, if you simply look at the box office receipts, it seems that moviegoers liked Momoa's performance as Aquaman (at least initially). The first is by James Wan Aquaman The film grossed over $1 billion at the box office, making it the most successful film in the DCEU. but, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom It took in a relatively paltry $439.4 million, with a steep decline indicating everyone's collective superhero fatigue, and perhaps collective disdain for Momoa's one-note performance as the title character.

Lobo and Momoa belong together

So why are we so convinced that James Gunn made the right decision in casting Jason Momoa as Lobo, especially when it serves as a reminder of the DCEU's failings? As mentioned before, he has basically been auditioning for the role for many years now. The Aquaman we saw fighting alongside the Justice League or fighting to save Atlantis bore almost no resemblance to the character from the comics because he appeared as a direct-to-video action star with attempted “cool” dialogue that could have been written by a five-year-old. This type of dialogue better suits the character of Lobo, who is known for his exaggerated lines and bad behavior.

As James Gunn knows, Jason Momoa also has the perfect physique for Lobo, a character whose ripped body is constantly on display (that's what happens when you wear the jacket but ignore the shirt). However, the Aquaman actor's attitude-packed performance is far more important than his physique as this character with a violent, devilish outlook is the exact opposite of Superman's moral Boy Scout. We don't know yet how Millie Alcock will play Supergirlbut it looks like she'd have the perfect enemy (and, in all likelihood, a reluctant ally from Chapter 3) if Momoa gave Lobo some of his DCEU leftovers.

Jason Momoa's dream role

Jason Momo

Finally, while this doesn't guarantee a great performance, it's great to see James Gunn cast Jason Momoa as Lobo because the actor has spent many years discussing how he would like to play the role. All great on-screen performances start with an actor's passionate dedication to the project, and we know Momoa is very excited to play the last of the Caesars on screen. Combined with Gunn's passion for this strange universe that he brings to life, the future looks incredibly bright for him. DC Fans.

Before anyone picks up their trident to throw at us, we'll end by acknowledging that Momoa has always been a great superhero performer, but was hampered by a very limited vision (sorry, not sorry to break this to you fans). From directors like Zack Snyder And Joss Whedon. After the success of films such as Guardians of the Galaxy It appears like PeacemakerJames Gunn is clearly just as passionate about comic books as Jason Momoa is about Lobo. Considering that we've been waiting decades to see the male lead on screen in a live-action movie, we're now more excited for the DCU than ever before.
