Tottenham defender Christian Romero has publicly criticized the club's management for insufficient investment following their 4-3 defeat to Chelsea.

The loss represents another setback in a difficult period for Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou, who has managed just one win in their last seven matches in all competitions.

Speaking to Telemundo Deportes after the match, Romero expressed concerns about the club falling behind their Premier League rivals due to a lack of financial commitment.

The Argentina international suggested that other major clubs should continue to invest to remain competitive.

He said: “Manchester City competes every year. You see how Liverpool strengthens its team, and Chelsea strengthens its team, and does not perform well, and strengthens its strength again, and now they see the results.

“Those are the things that should be emulated. “You have to realize that something is wrong, and hopefully they (the board) will realize that.

“In the last few years, it's always been the same – first the players change, then the coaching staff changes, and it's always the same people in charge.

“I hope they realize who are really responsible, as we move forward because it is a beautiful club that, with its structure, can easily compete for the title every year.”

The Australian manager is the fifth coach to work under Romero since joining Tottenham in 2021, including interim appointments.

Sunday's defeat to their London rivals left Tottenham in the bottom half of the league table, where they occupy 11th place after 15 matches.

The team's current struggles have intensified scrutiny of the club's leadership – Which we have divided into a separate piece – with the finger pointed at Romero on the board instead of coach Ange Postecoglou.

Romero's comments came during a live interview with Spanish Radio Telemundo Deportes, where he was questioned about the depth of the Tottenham squad.
