Very few bosses encourage employees to show up drunk, but the actors have a unique performance. So it makes sense Us Weekly Reader Laurie from Houston had to do just that Ask us: “Is it difficult for actors to play drunk characters and make them seem believable?”
Viewers watching drunken adventures unfold on screen (think: friends(Ross and Rachel's booze-filled night in Las Vegas) may think that making a good, believable noise is easy. But… Competitors star Aidan Turnerwho was defeated by Declan O'Hara in Episode 5 of the Hulu drama, proved that playing drunk is a challenge.
“Our manager, Elliot HegartyHe was saying: You have to do more. “You’re on seven, and I need nine, and I was like, ‘I can’t!’” Turner, 41, told EXCLUSIVELY. we. Eventually, Turner turned his performance up to 11, and was surprised by the results. “I was like, ‘This is crazy. “It will never work.”
the Poldark The key to creating a believable performance is trust in his director, the alum said. “When I look at that scene, I have mixed feelings because he was so drunk,” Turner said. “I think as a person (in real life), I don't get too blurry or crazy drunk, so it's always been very big for me. But I suppose, tonally, it fits the show and you have to trust your director at that point. He or she's going to give you what You want and he will guide you through it.”
Overall, Turner considers the powerful drunken performance to be a fairly impressive accomplishment. “There are a lot of great drunk performances. I love subtle drunkenness,” the Irish actor explained.
When he's not asked to turn his performance up to 11, Turner believes the key to playing a drunk is for the actor to look like he wants to be sober.
“It's almost like any drunk person you meet, they're trying not to be drunk,” he noted. “You're kind of trying to straighten yourself out. You're trying not to slander and you're trying to straighten yourself out. That's the moment right there. You're not leaning toward the drunk, you're kind of trying to lean far From him. So, in shows where I see that happening — where you can really see (the actor) actually working to not (be) drunk — I always find (the performance) the most interesting to watch.
