Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is targeting trophies in the new year after the Gunners beat Ipswich to move into second place in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta's side have finished second behind Manchester City in each of the past two seasons and now trail Liverpool by six points until 2025.

The Gunners are also going well in the Champions League and will face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

It's been a good year. “We did a good job, but this is not what we want,” Rice said.

“I hope the new year brings trophies. To take that next step to be among the elite. We can keep winning games, but it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t win anything.”

Kai Havertz's goal was enough to beat Ipswich and register their eighth win in 11 games since back-to-back defeats in November.

The Gunners have been frustrating in front of goal and Rice says they need service from other teams to stop Liverpool – who face West Ham on Sunday.

“Much respect for them. They're in full throttle,” Rice said.

“They are not letting anyone breathe and we need someone to help us so they can lose some points.

“I thought Chelsea were fantastic. They were amazing the way they played.”
