For those of us who love schlock movies, there is such a thing as “so bad it's good.” It's not exactly critically approved, but that description is best applied to films that are more than the sum of their terrible parts. At times, the acting, plot, special effects, and more are so terrible that combined they form the kind of cinematic trainwreck that is almost impossible to look away from. But if you're willing to do your own Time Warp, there's one “so bad, it's good” movie that's secretly great: Rocky Horror Picture Showa quirky comedy classic now streaming on Hulu.
Original worship music
If you've never seen it Rocky Horror Picture Show (In theaters, on TV, or on streaming services like Hulu), Here's the weird little plot: We follow the adventures of a newly engaged couple who get lost while driving in the rain, forcing them to find out whether or not a nearby castle has a phone they can use. can be used. No phone, but a whole cast of characters, including Dr. Frank-N-Furter (the self-proclaimed “cute transsexual from Transylvania”) and his hunky, shirtless creation (the titular rocky). Their relationship is put to the ultimate test, a test consisting of sex, drugs, and a little rock 'n' roll.
For those who honestly went this long without seeing Rocky Horror Picture Show (Seriously, just click on it Holo Link at bottom of article!) The biggest draw of this film is the cast, including Tim Curry in an unforgettably awful performance as Frank-N-Furter. Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon play the hapless couple at the heart of this tale, and their goofy chemistry holds the film together effectively. Along the way, you'll also meet an unexpected guest star in this Science fiction Musical Comedy: Meatloaf, who seems to do anything for love or a paycheck.
On paper, Rocky Horror Picture Show Sounds like a bona fide financial success. For a meager budget of $1.4 million, the film grossed more than $170 million, making it the kind of hit comedy that Hulu is lucky enough to have in the movie world. My neighbor rotation. However, this film was originally a flop: it opened in eight cities and was quickly snatched from theaters after only becoming a success in Los Angeles. However, a year later, 20th Century Fox executive Tim Deegan convinced distributors to begin showing this film as a midnight movie, a decision that made the film profitable even as it unexpectedly created Hollywood history.
You see, these midnight shows attracted largely the same fans every week, and about five months later, a new tradition began where audience members would once again converse with the on-screen characters. This led to fans creating performance groups where they dressed up like the characters and acted out the events even while the movie played behind them. now, The Rocky Horror Picture Show Officially the longest-running film release in history, it continues to run in theaters and as part of fan screenings even while streaming on Hulu.
Mastering the midnight movie
Picture of Rocky Horror The show didn't create the midnight movie experience, but it arguably perfected it. At this point, there are decades of deliciously decadent fan performances and naughty callbacks that have kept this movie alive and well. And if you've ever enjoyed an exciting, thrilling show at your local theater after midnight, you've done it Rocky Horror To thank you for that.
