Harry Brock in Clueless vs. Varun Chakravarthy

Brook failed to live up to the hype in the Kolkata T20i after being named vice-captain of the England white-ball side. He only managed to score 17 runs off 14 balls before being bowled over by an errant off Varun Chakravarthy.

After the match, the batsman spoke to the media, where he described Chakravarthy as “extremely good” and “tough to pick”. However, he also claimed that there was a lot of smog in Kolkata, which made things more difficult for him while facing the dizzy spell, and he is hopeful that the air will be “clearer” in the next matches.

As the action moved to the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, there was no sign of smog, but Brook's performance did not improve as he scored just 13 runs before Varun Chakravarthy shook his stumps with a brilliant delivery.

After his back-to-back failures, Harry Brook faced heavy criticism from fans as well as former cricketers from India and England for blaming smog for his struggles.

I just want to say one thing to Harry Brook…. – Ravichandran Ashwin

Legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has now shared his views on the comment made by Brook.

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat, Ravichandran Ashwin highlighted that there was no fog in Chennai and gave him crucial advice to end his struggles against Chakravarthy. He stated:

“There was no smog in Chennai. So, Harry Brook said he was out because of the smog in Eden Gardens. I just want to tell one thing to Harry Brook – Harry Brook, keep this thing in mind that Varun Chakravarth-do a lot, his main strength is googlies Only.

It doesn't matter what the light is – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin spoke out about Harry Brook's inability to read Varun Chakravarthy's Google, which led to him smashing his stumps

Ashwin advised Brook to see the spinner's hand properly to get an idea of the delivery before playing shots rather than blaming light or smog for his dismissal. He explained:

“Brook moved towards leg stump and was out at Eden Gardens. Again, he covered the off stump and went on the front foot, did not read the googly and missed the stumps in Chennai.

“If you see his hand, you can read the googly. It doesn't matter how light it is, if you don't see the googly coming, you can't run it.”
