Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have agreed to put the lawsuit on hold for 90 days, ESPN reported. They made a compromise to drop him.
The two fighters have reached an agreement to fight later this year, and dropping the legal dispute will pave the way for the fight.
A lawsuit is pending
The settlement allows the lawsuit to be resolved, but it must be concluded. After this is completed, the case will be dismissed. Ryan said this was the condition for him to negotiate a rematch with Haney.
Turki Al-Sheikh wants this rematch. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) filed a lawsuit after testing positive for the banned substance, Ostarine, following his win over Devin on April 20.
Garcia will have a temporary fight
Ryan revealed today that he's got a mystery opponent for his next fight, and he “can't wait” for fans to find out who it is. This is not Hani. There's not a huge level of interest in their second fight after the way Ryan eliminated him last April.
He wouldn't fight him again unless he dropped his claim. This makes sense for Haney because he will likely get more money fighting Ryan again than he will from the lawsuit. Without a rematch, Haney will be stuck fighting other fighters for less money and higher risks.
Haney is not a senior player, and his career outlook is not promising at 140 or 147 years old. He did well initially moving up to light welterweight, once again being the Regis Prograis of old, but it will be difficult for him to fight other fighters who are still in their prime and can punch.
That's why he should get a rematch with Ryan. Even if his career collapses right afterward, he'll have a big payday to live off of for the rest of his life.
Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia asked the court on Wednesday to temporarily halt proceedings for 90 days regarding the lawsuit against Garcia due to a tentative settlement, according to a legal document obtained by ESPN.
This development comes as Haney and Garcia are close to reaching a deal for…
