Pep Guardiola and Ruben Amorim were in contrasting moods in their post-match press conferences following Manchester United's 2-1 win over Manchester City.

The Premier League champions led 1-0 heading into the final five minutes of the game, but were undone by Amad Diallo.

Diallo earned his side a penalty after latching on to a back pass from Matheus Nunes, which Bruno Fernandes slotted home, before scoring the winner a few minutes later.

Guardiola has been left in a state of panic throughout, with his side winning just one of their last 11 matches.

He said: This year, unfortunately, this is repeated. We have given up on many things.

“We are not good in the way we played. Before it was so fluid, now we are struggling for different reasons. A lot of defeats.

“We did our best and the game was almost closed. They had more possession in the first half but there was nothing special. We gave away two goals, which is very difficult.

“It is what it is. What can I say? We can't blame this or that player, it's not like that. It's the season, a difficult season.

“We didn't play to our best. We're not at our best and we're struggling a little bit. Now we're not playing for this week.

“Before we didn't lose much in two seasons. Now we've done it in eight games. You have to defend. We've lost a lot of games. It's difficult. We have to move forward and try to find the solution and try to win games.

“I think that in nine years it has not been the most difficult defeat. Champions League defeats are more difficult. But at the moment, we need results to improve our mood. It is getting worse. I have to find the solution. So far I have not found it and that is the truth.”

The ecstasy of Amorim

Meanwhile, it was happy for Amorim, who has now beaten City as United and Sporting coach this season.

He can be seen with his head in his hands during match times but all will be forgotten for now as he celebrates the win.

He said: Three points. We have a lot to do but it's huge for our fans. But I see the same match until the 85th minute.

Our conversation might have been very different without the goals but the performance was the same. They were in the game for 90 minutes. We didn't control the result throughout the match but I think we deserved it. Good day for us.

“You could feel we were close to scoring. We improved our speed on our runs and had chances. We controlled City's attack and believed it at the end. We wanted it even more when we scored the first goal. Congratulations to the boys.”

“It's really important but when this game finished I was reminded of the storm a week ago. We were 3-1 down at home to Nottingham, and I keep that feeling so I don't exaggerate these days. We needed it so much to get the three points.”
