Residents were forced to flee as fires continued to rage in Southern California. As of midday Thursday, the fires had burned more than 27,000 acres, Cal Fire said. At least five people have been reported killed, according to authorities, and at least 130,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes.

“The combination of dry fuel, hurricane winds and low humidity has fueled the fires, challenging fire containment efforts as they consume tens of thousands of acres,” the organization said. “And the threat is far from over.” “Critical fire weather will continue through Friday and then again next week.
