McLaren
Lando Norris – 2027
Norris agreed to an extension shortly before the start of the 2024 Formula 1 season. He had been linked with a move to Red Bull but instead chose to lead McLaren's attempts to oust Max Verstappen.
McLaren said Norris had signed a “multi-year” extension to his previous deal, which was due to expire in 2025, confirming the 25-year-old is tied to the British team until at least the end of 2027.
Oscar Piastri – 2026
Piastri signed a multi-year contract extension in September 2023 during his rookie season with McLaren.
Piastri is relatively inexperienced compared to team-mate Norris, so if he can make another step forward in 2025 and McLaren has a championship-winning car, it will be great to see how Zak Brown and Andrea Stella handle their respective drivers.
Ferrari
Charles Leclerc – “Several Seasons”
Leclerc signed a new contract with Ferrari in January 2024, but the team did not comment on the length of his contract.
Leclerc said on social media afterwards that he would remain with Ferrari “for several seasons to come” and it is difficult to see the driver from Monaco heading elsewhere in the medium to short term.
Lewis Hamilton – 2026
Hamilton's surprise announcement on February 1 last year to join Ferrari was one of the biggest Formula 1 transfer deals in the history of the sport.
Hamilton will spend at least two seasons at Ferrari, having signed a multi-year contract that began this year. The 39-year-old is approaching the end of his Formula 1 career and feels he will retire from Formula 1 red.
Red Bull
Max Verstappen – 2028
Verstappen signed a long-term contract in March 2022 to stay at Red Bull until the end of 2028. However, there are clauses in Verstappen's contract that could see him leave the team, which was highlighted in 2024 during the height of the inappropriate behavior allegations. case against Christian Horner, which was dismissed later that year.
Toto Wolff has confirmed that he met Verstappen's manager Raymond Vermeulen and father José Verstappen during the summer break last season.
Adrian Newey's joining forces with Aston Martin and Honda to become the team's power unit supplier from 2026 also makes them a potential future option for Verstappen, who has also confirmed that he does not want to spend his entire racing career in Formula One.
Liam Lawson – 2025
Red Bull's decision to drop Sergio Perez means Lawson will be Verstappen's newest teammate and his Formula 1 career will be decided by the 2025 season.
Lawson, who has competed in just 11 races, is only confirmed for 2025 and his future will depend entirely on how he performs against Verstappen.
Mercedes
George Russell – 2025
Russell will be keen to assert himself as Mercedes team leader alongside Andrea teenager Kimi Antonelli.
The Mercedes drivers have only been confirmed for the 2025 season, which could be an indication that Wolff is still keen on signing Verstappen, so repeating his strong campaign in 2024 will be pivotal for Russell.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli – 2025
Mercedes made the brave decision to replace Hamilton with 18-year-old Antonelli, who was thrown straight in at the deep end.
Antonelli has been touted as the next big thing in Formula 1, but a huge crash on his debut in practice at Monza and a disappointing Formula 2 season may have taken some of the shine off the Italian ahead of his big season.
Aston Martin
Fernando Alonso – 2026
Alonso agreed to extend his contract last April to stay with Aston Martin until at least the end of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
Alonso is the oldest driver on the grid and will turn 45 during the 2026 season, making him the first driver to compete in Formula 1 at this age since Graham Hill in 1975.
The Spaniard has not won a Formula 1 race since 2013, winning his titles in 2005 and 2006. He hopes that the 2026 car driven by Adrian Newey will help him achieve his dream of becoming a three-time world champion.
Lance Stroll – 2026
Stroll is the only driver in the field whose contract details are largely unknown, partly because he is the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll, and it appears he will retain a seat as long as his father remains in that position.
Alonso outperformed Stroll during their two seasons together, but Aston Martin officially announced last June that the Canadian had a deal “for 2025 onwards”.
Alps
Pierre Gasly – 2026
Gasly also announced a contract extension to stay at Alpine until at least the end of the 2026 Formula 1 season on the same day Stroll's deal was revealed.
Gasly joined Alpine at the start of 2023 and impressed many last year with his performances, which included a podium finish at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in the rain.
Jack Doohan – 2025
Doohan will be Gasly's new team-mate after Esteban Ocon left Alpine before the end of last season. Doohan made his Formula 1 debut at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix due to Ocon's sudden departure.
The 21-year-old Australian was a reserve driver in the Alps last year and could come under early pressure to retain his seat.
Haas
Esteban Ocon – 2026
Ocon is looking to revive his F1 career with Haas after a disappointing end to his time in the Alps.
The French driver agreed to join Haas last July on a multi-year deal and will have a young Briton to compete with for the American team.
Oliver Berman – 2026
Pearman already has three Formula 1 weekends under his belt, including a strong debut for Ferrari when he replaced Carlos Sainz at the 2024 Saudi Grand Prix.
Biermann was announced as Haas' driver for the 2025 season during last summer's British Grand Prix, and later drove twice for the team in place of Kevin Magnussen, who was suspended for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and fell ill at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The 19-year-old is the youngest British Formula 1 driver ever.
Bull racing
Yuki Tsunoda – 2025
Many feel Tsunoda should have been promoted to Red Bull's main team, but instead he will spend a fifth year at the newly renamed Racing Bulls team, formerly known as Toro Rosso, Alpha Tauri and more recently RB.
It was announced that Tsunoda would remain at sister team Red Bull for 2025 last June but driver changes could happen at any time at any of the Red Bull teams.
Ishaq Hajjar – 2025
Red Bull's Hager Jr. was confirmed as Racing Bulls' second driver in December.
The 20-year-old Frenchman finished second in last year's Formula 2 championship behind Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoletto after winning four races, becoming the latest driver from Red Bull's junior program to graduate to the Formula 1 grid.
Hajjar has made four first practice appearances with the two Red Bull teams over the past two seasons on Formula 1 race weekends, becoming the 19th driver from the company's junior program to reach the top level.
Williams
Carlos Sainz – 2026
Sainz was a fixture in the Formula 1 driver market in the early stages of last season, although he did not have a drive for the 2025 season when Hamilton was announced to replace him at Ferrari.
Last July, Williams confirmed that they had won the battle to sign Sainz on a two-year contract with “options to extend” beyond 2026.
Williams coach James Fowles described Sainz's signing as a “strong statement of intent”.
Alex Albon – 2026
Albon agreed to extend his contract for several years last May, but he faces his toughest competition with Williams this season.
The British-born Thai driver joined Williams in 2022 after a year away from the sport, having been let go by Red Bull at the end of 2020 after 18 months as Verstappen's teammate.
Sauber
Nico Hulkenberg – 2026
Hulkenberg was confirmed as Audi's first Formula 1 driver last April after Haas revealed he would leave at the end of the 2024 season.
Hulkenberg has signed a multi-year contract that will see him drive for Sauber this year, after which German manufacturer Audi will take over the team from the 2026 season.
Gabriel Bortoletto – 2026
To combine Hulkenberg's experience, Sauber and Audi have signed Formula 2 champion Bortoletto, another exciting young talent joining the grid.
Bortoletto won both the Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships in his first season, indicating that he has an exceptional talent and could become one of the best Formula 1 drivers in the future. Audi has the Brazilian until at least the end of 2026.
