Dennis Coulson, a former Irish under-20 rugby player, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of raping a woman in Bordeaux, France, in 2017.

Dublin-born Coulson, who also played for Connacht and French side Stade Francais, was one of two former Irish rugby internationals sentenced on Friday at a Bordeaux court.

Chris Farrell, who was a member of Ireland's 2018 Six Nations winning squad, was given a four-year prison sentence suspended for two years for failing to prevent an offence.

The court was told he would not be sent to prison, but would have to wear an electronic tag for two years and remain in France.

The two men were on trial along with three other rugby players, two of whom were also found guilty of rape on Friday.

All five men were teammates at FC Grenoble.

Loic James, 30, from France, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Rory Grace, 34, from New Zealand, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Fellow New Zealander Dylan Hayes, 30, was given a two-year suspended prison sentence for failing to prevent a crime.

The five defendants denied the charges against them.
