Two Premier League sides meet at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon when Tottenham Hotspur travel to Everton.
These two historic clubs have been just shy of winning trophies in the modern era, and both clubs perhaps see a little of themselves in the other. This pair of inherently pessimistic fanbases have had a dismal 2024/25 season so far, although many would argue that Everton's performance is in line with pre-season expectations.
Sean Dyche has left the Toffees 16th in the table and barely above the relegation zone. David Moyes has since been appointed as his successor, but the returning Scot oversaw a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa in midweek.
Tottenham's barren run in the Premier League continued on Wednesday Arsenal It defeated the North London derby 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Sunday's visitor numbers remain depleted, but Ange Postecoglou will simply have to oversee an uptick in results soon.
They remain in all the cup competitions – Postecoglou's saving grace – but Spurs' return of five points out of a possible 29 over their previous nine league games can only be described as a form of relegation.

Everton Dwight McNeil and James Garner will soon be available again, but the pair are set to miss Sunday's game with knee and back injuries.
Seamus Coleman is also suffering from muscle problems, which raises doubts about his participation in the visit of Tottenham, while strikers Youssef El Shermati and Armando Broga are absent from the field. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is likely to remain up front despite his wasteful display in midweek. Moyes has Beto as an alternative.
Nathan Patterson could come in for Ashley Young at right-back, with Jesper Lindstrom also pushed to start the attack.
Expected lineup for Everton against Tottenham (4-2-3-1):Beckford; Patterson, Tarkovsky, Branthwaite, Mikulenko; Gay, Mangala; Lindstrom, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.
Richarlison came off the bench for the derby after two months with a hamstring injury. Son Heung-min scored on Wednesday But his performances have been poor this season, and we could soon see the Brazilian emerge as a real option on the left flank for Postecoglou.
Ben Davies could return to the lineup on Sunday, but Spurs will likely have to stick with the same makeshift defense at Goodison Park. Brennan Johnson is a surprise doubt with a calf injury at forward.
Wilson Odubert, William Vicar, Christian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and Timo Werner are all absent due to injury.
Expected lineup for Tottenham against Everton (4-3-3): Kinski; Boro, Dragocin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Bergvall, Madison; Kulusevsky, Solanki, Jr.
Can both teams lose?
Moyes' Everton won't be much different from Dyche's version, and will remain a difficult team to beat, especially at Goodison. The Toffees could have taken a point on Wednesday had Calvert-Lewin returned to his form early in the 2020/21 season and not the version he has emerged since.
Spurs should have control and territory here, but they have hardly proven themselves adept at picking locks against compact defences. Their problems from set-pieces have not been as noticeable compared to last season, but the hosts will no doubt aim to control such situations on Sunday.
All results are on the table here, but the visitors could come away with the three points they desperately need.
