David Moyes takes charge for his first match since returning to Everton against Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

After the club parted ways with Sean Dyche just hours before their FA Cup third-round win over Peterborough last Thursday, the Toffees have turned to a familiar face. Moyes spent more than a decade at Goodison Park before taking over at Manchester United in 2013, although he returns as the Premier League's oldest manager after entering in 2002 as the division's youngest coach.

His first task is to revive a group of players who have gone far under Daichi's leadership. The Toffees currently sit 16th in the table and just one point above the relegation zone, but have played a game less than their relegation rivals.

Everton They face a Villa side who have undoubtedly suffered the extra burden of Champions League football this season. The Villains have impressed on their return to Europe's premier club competition, but their domestic form has declined.

Unai Emery's side have won less than 50% of their league matches so far. However, they beat Premier League rivals West Ham to advance to the quarter-finals FA Cup The fourth round last week.

James Garner

We should not expect radical personnel changes from Moyes, nor a systemic overhaul, but several players will return to the squad after withdrawing from last Thursday's FA Cup win over Peterborough.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is among the names to be included in Moyes' returning starting lineup on Wednesday. But Dwight McNeil will be sidelined again due to a knee injury.

Everton supporters may have already seen the last of Armando Broja after he was extended last Thursday with a devastating knee injury. Broja joins Tim Iroegbunam on the sidelines.

James Garner could return from a back problem after three months out.

Expected Everton lineup against Aston Villa (4-5-1):Beckford; Jung, Tarkovsky, Branthwaite, Mikulenko; Lindstrom, Gueye, Mangala, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.

John Doran, Anthony Taylor

Emery could call up striker John Doran after serving the last of his three-match ban on Friday night, but Ollie Watkins is likely to retain his place in the starting line-up.

Leon Bailey has returned to play a more prominent role in John McGinn's absence, with the Jamaican set to emerge as a regular on the right flank. McGinn is currently out of action with a hamstring issue.

villa They are also without Pau Torres due to a foot injury, while Diego Carlos is a doubt. Tyrone Mings looks set to partner Ezri Konsa at Goodison. Ross Barkley is sidelined with a calf injury.

Aston Villa expected lineup against Everton (4-3-3): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Denny; Kamara, Onana, Tielemans; Bailey, Watkins, Rogers.

Some Everton supporters may feel some resentment towards Moyes for the way he left the club more than a decade ago, but there is no doubt the returning coach will receive a rapturous reception at Goodison on Wednesday.

Moyes must build on the foundations laid by Dyche, and eventually develop Everton into a dangerous counter-attacking team, perhaps less predictable when not in possession. It won't happen right away, but expect the hosts to be inspired here.

Aston Villa are the 14th best performing away team in the Premier League this season, losing five of their nine matches on the road, while Everton have shown they are capable of getting results against the best teams in the division.

The two elephants must be on alarm alert.

Predicted score: Everton 1-0 Aston Villa
