'Mexican monster' David Morrell says David Benavidez shouldn't be 'scared' and come up with pre-fight excuses ahead of their February 1st light heavyweight bout. Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) spoke about his concerns about Morrell's VADA testing.
Desperate measures
Morel (11-0, 9 KOs) sees interim WBC 175-pound champion Benavidez Cooking PED excuse to give his fans an explanation of “what went wrong” after losing the fight. If he told his fans he thought Morell, 26, was dirty, they would sympathize with him and not abandon him in droves.
Without any excuse to explain the defeat, fans will jump off Benavidez's sinking ship Rats leave the struggling ship On the high seas. It may be impossible for him to bring them back unless he comes up with an excuse that they will believe.
Many were willing to give Benavidez a pass for his last fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk when he said he was fighting due to injuries. No x-rays were shown to verify the injuries, but fans still believed him because this was the first time.
Hopefully Benavidez will show class if he loses instead of talking about his doubts without any supporting information to prove them.
Cuban Morell says Benanavidez has been fighting guys who weren't at his level his entire career, but now that he's facing someone at his level, he's scared and talks to PEDs to soften the blow if he gets hit.
Benavidez's insecurities
“He shouldn't be afraid. All his life, he's been fighting fighters who aren't at his level. That's what happens when they're afraid. They start using excuses from everywhere,” David Morrell said. Shawn Zettelin response to talk of VADA testing prior to their fight on February 1st.
This is the first time in Benavidez's 12-year pro career that he's fought someone in a 50-50 fight, and it's amazing how he's stooped to this level to spark talk about PEDs. Is it mind games for Benavidez to gain a much-needed advantage against the younger, faster, stronger and more talented Morel?
You can completely understand why Benavidez is nervous about this fight. If he loses, his dreams of a massive, multi-million dollar fight will be gone in an Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2 rematch, and he'll never get a chance to fight Canelo Alvarez either. He'll just be one of the 175-year-old contenders, fighting in salt mines, not making the big money.
