For both studio executives and fans, there are high hopes for it Daredevil: Born again It would be the crushing blow to Marvel that Disney+ so desperately needs. There are many reasons to be hopeful that the show will be a success, including the return of the main cast that made the Netflix original show a fan favorite. But for me, the biggest reason for optimism is this Daredevil: Born again It will be rated TV-MA, which represents Disney's late desire to diversify its MCU content.
Daredevil needs to be dark
Part of what Netflix is made of reckless Showing such a result is that he was not afraid to turn extremely dark as necessary. We get gory scenes like the Kingpin killing someone with a car door and the Punisher killing almost everyone who comes at him on Ryker's Island. when Daredevil: Born again It was first announced, and fans were worried about it Disney It will take a lighter, more kid-friendly approach to this brutal franchise. The TV-MA rating means it could be as brutal as it's ever been, but the main reason I'm excited is that for the first time in a long time, Disney is ready to create different shows for different types of audiences.
Much earlier Daredevil: Born again It was in production and before the advent of Disney+, the House of Mouse released Marvel content through various platforms that were aimed at very specific audiences. Younger fans got shows like Cloak and dagger On free form and Runaways on Holo While older fans got movie-like content on ABC via series like Shield agents and Agent Carter. Netflix has become the de facto home for mature Marvel content, offering shows like reckless and Jessica Jones This, frankly, can't be easily shown anywhere outside of live streaming.
When Disney+ came out, all the shows were aimed at the same middle-of-the-road audience Shield agents She was aiming to. This is not inherently a bad thing. Shield agents It was a very strong show in its own right, as early Disney+ shows like were WandaVision and Loki Prove that the studio still has some great stories to tell. However, it was clear that adult content was not a focus after Disney “accidentally” uploaded a censored episode of the “adult” series. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier And then all the old Netflix MCU shows gave a content warning.
The New Disney/Marvel TV-MA Era
now, Daredevil: Born again Earning a TV-MA rating is proof that Disney is willing to do whatever it takes to create more mature content. certainly, echo The miniseries was also TV-MA, but that seemed like a marketing angle for a show that flew under most people's radar. Born againHowever, it's the most anticipated Disney+ show for Marvel fans, and allowing such a popular character to have more R-rated adventures means the streamer is finally ready to create more mature shows for more mature audiences.
if Daredevil: Born again It's proving to be a hit on Disney+, and we may be getting more TV-MA Marvel content. For example, if Punisher gets his own revival series, Frank Castle will definitely need this more mature rating to properly punish his enemies. Other familiar characters like Elektra and even… Ghost Rider It would benefit from having a single chain that is not constrained by the need to create family-friendly programming. Plus, since it looks like we may never get that Blade movie, this show may be reborn as Disney+ with all the hilarious profanity and violence of the original Wesley Snipes films.
Admittedly, all of this might be putting the cart before the horse (or should that be down the hall in front of the hero?). Daredevil: Born again It could very well fail on Disney+, especially after the show had to fire its current writers and directors to creatively overhaul the entire series. However, hope is eternal, and we can only hope that the House of Mouse embraces more of the diversity in storytelling that has always made Marvel great. Otherwise Netflix The Marvel era may be remembered as the last time this franchise was willing to swing for the streaming fences.
