The veteran full-back is a useful player for the Magpies, even if he is no longer one of the first names on Howe's squad.

NUFC may have Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall at full-back, but Trippier is useful cover in both positions.

It would certainly be unwise for Newcastle to let an experienced player like that leave midway through the season when he will certainly be needed at some stage.

Howe is no doubt aware that the matches will come thick and fast, and he will need to rotate his team from time to time to keep up with all the matches.

As well as their bid for European qualification in the Premier League table, Newcastle also have a Carabao Cup semi-final to think about.

Trippier would certainly be tempted to accept big money from elsewhere if it came along, while he may also not be keen on being merely a reserve player at this stage of his career.

It will be interesting to see how this saga plays out in the coming weeks, and whether Newcastle and Howe can reach an agreement on the player.
