Devin Haney will train in front of his British fans today in an open workout at two o'clock in the afternoon in London, England. He has no fight scheduled.
Haney in London: Searching for a United Kingdom Consolidation
It's a strange move on Dave's part because he's not fighting a British guy; He's coming off an embarrassing loss, and his stock is down. He seems desperate to make the move, but it shows his professional standing.
It would look bad for Haney if only a few fans and members of the media showed up to watch him work out. However, there will likely be a fair amount of British media that will show up so they can give an interview.
Some believe the move is aimed at building Hani's brand abroad in the hope that he will be selected by Turki Al-Sheikh to fight on one of his Riyadh season cards. By training in London, Devin, a former two-division world champion, will gain exposure from the British press and potentially be noticed by a Turk.
If he wanted to add Devin to one of his cards, he could face him against a formidable opponent, such as Richardson Hitchens, Liam Barrow, or Jaron Ennis. It's doubtful Haney would agree to fight either of these guys because he doesn't want to jeopardize his rematch with Ryan Garcia.
Lost Haney's A-list status
In the United States, Haney's stock fell as a result of his loss to Ryan Garcia and his decision to file a lawsuit and sit out of the ring for a year, not fighting. The way his career looks now, it doesn't look good for him.
He is no longer one of the top fighters due to that loss, and the chances of him returning to his former high-profile status are slim. There is no champion as weak as those Haney beat to capture his two-division world titles.
