One thing Washington politicians and Hollywood celebrities have in common is a tendency to give themselves pointless, unearned accolades, and President Joe Biden this week took the practice to a whole new level of absurdity.

On Thursday, former Wyoming state representative and biggest Trump hater, Liz Cheney, received the Presidential Citizen's Medal for her work chairing the House Select Committee on the January 6 attack alongside her other co-chair, Rep. Bennie Thompson. .

So, here's the thing: regardless of how one feels about the events of J6,… January 6 Committeewith its engaging prime-time listening sessions, was by all reasonable measures a complete and utter failure.

The American people were promised irrefutable evidence that would end Donald Trump's political career forever. Instead, Cheney and Thompson delivered a very dry surprise. And by the way, Trump will be back in office in two weeks.

Bang the action guys! Here's your medal.

How unsuccessful was the Soviet-style show trial led by Cheney? Well, according to Monmouth University, before the 2022 hearings, 42% of Americans held Trump directly responsible for the January 6 riot, and after the ridiculous spectacle, that number dropped to 38%.

Millions of dollars were wasted, thousands of man hours were wasted, and a former ABC News producer was brought in to spice things up, but to no avail, because the American people know a show trial when they see one.

This is the same Liz Cheney, who in 2020, before succumbing to Trump Derangement Syndrome, said that the FBI's actions against Trump during Russiagate looked “like a coup” and may even have been “betrayal.”

But by the summer of 2022, Cheney saw an opportunity to get rid of Donald Trump once and for all, and return the Republican Party to good old establishment ways like hers.

Cheney said Trump was an insurrectionist who illegally opposed the certification of ballots in a free and fair election! Not to mention that Co-Chairman Thompson himself refused to vote to certify the 2004 election. Apparently that was different somehow.

At these hearings, a parade of disgruntled former White House officials and a handful of Capitol Police officers, among others, were effusively praised from a podium packed with angry Democrats who despise Trump and two Republicans, Cheney and Trump. Representative Adam Kinzingerwho might hate Trump more.

What really happened to Cheney was how relentlessly insufferable she became once Trumpmania set in.

The whole ridiculous enterprise had all the sincerity and fairness of tossing a coin and shouting, “Head you win, head you lose.”

And speaking of loss, in the midst of the committee's ten televised sessions in the summer of 2022, Liz Cheney lost the primary to Harriet Hagman By about 40 points. The fire of her hatred for Donald Trump has finally consumed Liz Cheney's political career.

nothing else matters. Not the borders, not the economy, not Joe Biden's corruption or incompetence. The only thing that exists in the universe is the unique and supposedly evil threat of Trump.

Even the idiotic Kamala Harris campaign brought out old grumpy Liz to create fear among non-existent “pro-Harris Republicans.” Trump's most fanatical critics can't understand why everyone doesn't wake up in a cold sweat over Trump like they do now.

Liz Cheney could have stood by her party and her caucus in 2022. She could have refused to participate in Trump's unfair trial, even while criticizing him. If she had, she would likely still be in Congress. But instead, the scion of the Cheney political dynasty gave it all up because she thought she knew better than the people she served.

Now, instead of a seat in the halls of power, Cheney has a useless trinket given to him by a lame-duck defeated president.

Who can say what's next for Liz? Maybe her own show will be on Netflix, after all, if someone as unpopular as Meghan Markle can get a show, maybe someone as insufferable as Cheney can too.

Cheney may one day add an Emmy to her presidential award for citizenship, but one thing is certain: Liz Cheney will never again come close to power in the Republican Party, which is very good news indeed.

Enjoy the medal, Liz. And early retirement.
