Daniel Dubois gate smashed Oleksandr Usyk's moment after his win over Tyson Fury last Saturday night in Riyadh.
Badly timed request
It was low and low for Dubois to crash Usyk's party, interrupting his interview at his moment of glory following his 12-round unanimous decision win over “The Gypsy King” at Kingdom Arena.
IBF heavyweight champion Dubois was allowed into the ring to use the lights to demand a rematch against WBA, WBC and WBO champion Usyk (23-0, 12 KOs), whom he knocked out in the ninth round on Aug. 26, 2023, in Wroclaw, Poland.
Dubois could have waited until later to call out Usyk instead of getting into the ring to face him. Usyk should have told him to take a walk and enjoy his victory without anyone trying to pick the fight.
It is too early for Dubois to ask Usyk to fight as he still has a title defense against Joseph Parker on February 22 in Riyadh. He needs to win that fight before he can focus on unity against Usyk.
Usyk said he would grant Dubois' wish for a rematch if Turki Alsheikh agreed to take the fight.
Post-fight confrontation
Daniel Dubois: “Usyk, I want revenge. Well done tonight. I want revenge for the robbery last time. Let's get it. Let's go,” Dubois said inside. bellcalls out unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk moments after his victory over Tyson Fury last Saturday night in Riyadh. “Frank (Warren), do it.”
Oleksandr Usyk: “Your Excellency, make me fight against Daniel Dubois. Thank you very much. Yes, no problem. I'm ready. Next fight, no problem.”
A rematch with Anthony Joshua would pay Usyk more than a rematch with Dubois, who is not a big star outside the UK. A rematch with Joshua or a trilogy with Fury would be a better fight for Usyk.
