College football fans showed their patriotism Thursday afternoon in the Sugar Bowl New Orleans.

Before Notre Dame and Georgia played a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game in the Caesars Superdome, there was a moment of silence for those killed and injured in the terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day.

More than a dozen people were killed and many more injured when Shams al-Din Jabbar drove a truck into a crowd of people. New Orleans Bourbon Street.

After the moment of silence inside the Caesars Superdome ended, the crowd erupted, “USA!” Cheers.

This was followed by the singing of the national anthem with a large American flag covering the grass.

The terrorist attack led to the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, which determines who will play No. 6 Penn State in one semifinal of the College Football Playoff.

Authorities opened Bourbon Street hours before the game on Thursday, which was attended by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.

“Security will be tight,” Landry said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.” “We have every confidence that we will get this game going. The Superdome is completely safe. And once again, the FBI continues to pour resources into the state.”

Many people reacted to the senseless violence, including… Our Lady Head coach Marcus Freeman, who spoke to his team about what happened.

“The first part of this meeting was mourning and praying for our country,” he said during an appearance on ESPN.
