Stamford Bridge host an all-London fixture on Sunday evening as exciting Chelsea take on surprising Brentford.

Chelsea is progressing under the leadership of Enzo Maresca, as its victory over Tottenham last weekend raised it to second place in the English Premier League table. The Blues are now just five points behind Liverpool, who drew with Fulham on Saturday to temporarily tie things up in the games played column.

Marisca's side have not tasted defeat since October 30, and their unbeaten run in all competitions extended to nine matches on Thursday as they Won Astana 3-1 in Kazakhstan.

The home side will be looking for their first win over their west London rivals since December 2021 on Sunday.

Brentford, despite losing Ivan Toney in the summer, have impressed in spurts this season and have been impressive at home. In fact, no team has earned more points at home in the league Premier League Of Thomas Frank's bees, but they only gathered a point in their travels.

Their road problems mean they are ninth in the standings but within striking distance of the European positions.

You are Madueke

Those who featured in Kazakhstan on Thursday are unlikely to play a role here, with Maresca set to name a similar line-up from last Sunday's victory over Tottenham.

Noni Madueke will replace Pedro Neto, who is suspended, on the right side, while the inclusion of Malu Justo would force Moises Caicedo to play in midfield at the expense of Romeo Lafia. Lafia was withdrawn at half-time at N17.

Reece James and Wesley Fofana are both absent due to hamstring injuries, while Mykhailo Modric is a doubt due to illness.

Chelsea's expected lineup against Brentford (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; Gusto, Colwell, Badiashelli, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson.

Thomas Frank

Brentford have a fairly extensive injury list/Mike Hewitt/Getty Images

Frank named a more aggressive line-up against Newcastle last weekend but is likely to opt for a more realistic line-up on Sunday.

The German is likely to return to the back four with Mads Rorslev coming into the side. Mikkel Damsgaard has played an underappreciated role in Brentford's success this season and should return to Frank's side after being rested against Newcastle.

The list of visitors' injuries remains extensive, and Vitaly Janelt is the latest victim. The midfielder is doubtful for Sunday's match due to a knock. Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Mattias Jensen and Josh DaSilva have been sidelined.

Brentford's expected formation against Chelsea (4-2-3-1): stain; Rorslev, Collins, Pinnock, van den Berg; Norgaard, Janellette; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Lewis Potter; Wesa.

Marisca's side have shown some weaknesses at home this season, drawing with Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace after losing on the opening weekend to Manchester City. However, those results now seem like distant memories.

The Blues have found a majestic groove and are well into the main conversation. When you have Cole Palmer by your side, you'll never be out of contention.

The hosts face a stretched Brentford who have often gone cold on the road this season. Taking just one point from seven away games in the Premier League is an unfortunate return – the joint-worst record in the division. While their recent results against Chelsea should encourage Frank's side, it is difficult to envision anything other than a home win.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Brentford
