(Reuters) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce on Monday that he will resign as leader of the Liberal Party, the Globe and Mail newspaper reported on Sunday, citing three sources.
Sources told the Globe and Mail they don't know specifically when Trudeau will announce his plans to leave, but said they expect it to happen before a major national caucus meeting on Wednesday.
The report stated that it remains unclear whether Trudeau will leave immediately or remain as prime minister until a new leader is chosen.
Trudeau took over as Liberal leader in 2013 when the party was in major trouble and was demoted to third place in the House of Commons for the first time.
