Green was an all-rounder for Australia before sustaining the injury during the tour of England in September 2024. He underwent successful stress fracture surgery in October 2024 and was automatically ruled out of any form of professional cricket for at least six months.
As a result, he missed Australia's important Test series against India in November. However, his absence was not felt by Australia as the other players stood up and led their team to a dominant win over the tourists.
George Bailey confirms Cameron Green's return for WTC final
Australian chief selector George Bailey is hopeful Cameron Green will be available for the WTC final against South Africa in June. However, he made it clear that Green could only be available as a specialist hitter at the moment.
“I very much hope he will be available as a batsman in the World Test Championship final,” Bailey told reporters.

Australia confirmed their place in the World Trade Center final with victory over India in the fifth Test in Sydney. This will be their second WTC Final in a row as they are also the defending champions.
The importance of Cameron Green in the Australian Test team
Green was the number one player in Australia's squad in Tests before the surgery. He scored a brilliant 174* while batting at number four against New Zealand in Wellington with Steve Smith opening the batting.
However, Smith returned to number four in the recent Test series against India. This means Green could take the No. 6 spot when he returns. In his absence, Mitchell Marsh played as the only fast bowler in the playing XI.
However, Marsh was dropped for the final Test in Sydney due to his poor form. In his absence, Beau Webster made a brilliant start and played the role of an all-rounder to perfection by scoring 57 and 39* in both innings.
