During an episode of Maher's “Club Random” radio show last December, the comedic and outspoken Trump critic told guest Jane Fonda that “He may resign” Because he doesn't want to do an article about another term with President-elect Trump in the White House.

“I might resign because I don't want to do anything else. I did Trump. I did all the Trump stuff before anyone. I called him a fraud before anyone. I did it. He's a mafia boss. I'm the one who said it. He wasn't going to give in.” “The elections did that.”

During Friday night's episode of CNN's “The Lead,” Tapper asked Maher about that quote, assuming he meant to leave his show. “But there's talk you posted about possibly leaving the HBO show-” the announcer said.

“No,” the HBO host interrupted. Tapper continued, “Well, I said something to Jane Fonda about thinking about that. Where are you in your career? You still have a lot of good situations, a lot of good jokes, right? Like what – tell us what – what next?”

Maher admitted that he plans to quit stand-up because he is tired of touring and has too many other things going on.

He said, “Well, I'm going to stop doing stand-up, just because I'm tired of touring, and just because I've been doing this for 40 years. I love it.”
