The decision to go to college at this point in his life and career left one of his former players, linebacker Tedy Bruschi, wondering.
“What are we doing here? I mean, with Bill Belichick going to coach North Carolina State. I mean, college football — there's only one game I want to see Bill Belichick coach and that's the Super Bowl, okay?” He said on ESPN's “Sunday NFL Countdown.” “I don't want to see him coaching a Lawnmower Bowl team in December or January. That's not who I am right now.”
“I don't know how there wouldn't be any interest in where you bring Belichick, and he immediately makes you relevant and a good coach for who he is,” Bruschi continued. “Is he going to make one of these teams that need a head coach this year a direct contender? I mean, yeah, he will. He's very good. Now, he's not going to be on the level of the New England Patriots' six championships or anything.” Like that, but your team will be eligible from the start, so it's up to your players.
“I can't believe Bill Belichick won't be in the NFL next year. … I don't know how this happened.”
