NFL Network reported Sunday that the Bears want to interview Freeman for the head coach position after parting ways with Matt Eberflus midway through the 2024 season. The Bears had not made a decision on replacing Eberflus but were going through the interview process.
Freeman will first have to plan to play in Notre Dame's national title game against Ohio State. The Fighting Irish narrowly defeated Penn State to get there.
“He's obviously unlikely to entertain NFL overtures before that game — a week from tomorrow against Ohio State,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero said on the network. “But the Bears conducted an extensive search for months on Marcus Freeman. He's only 39 years old. It wouldn't be a shock that at some point he at least considers going to the NFL.”

Chicago is still willing to interview Brian Flores of the Minnesota Vikings, Kliff Kingsbury of the Washington Commanders, Todd Monken of the Baltimore Ravens, and Arthur Smith of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the job, according to the Daily Mail. NFL Network.
