The decision to change the start date was announced by BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. This decision is believed to have been taken during the special general meeting of the BCCI in which the Board of Directors officially appointed its new Secretary and Treasurer.

IPL 2025 is scheduled to start on March 23
The start date of IPL 2025 was March 14 earlier. While speaking to reporters after the BCCI SGM, Rajeev Shukla announced that the tournament will start on March 23 now. “The Indian Premier League will start on March 23,” Shukla told reporters.

While Rajeev Shukla revealed the start date, he did not tell anything about the change in the dates of the qualifying and final. Since the start dates have changed, these dates will likely change as well. These developments will be announced later.
Good news for players participating in the Champions Cup
It should be noted that the 2025 Champions Cup final will be held on March 9. Since the start date of the Indian Premier League has been brought forward, it will give the players the required amount of rest after the tournament.
IPL is a long tournament that lasts for two months and the players have to face harsh conditions as well. Dates may have been changed taking this aspect into account.

The new Secretary and Treasurer of BCCI has been officially announced
Apart from the discussion on the Indian Premier League, the BCCI also elected Devajit Saikia and Praptej Singh Bhatia as the new Board Secretary and Treasurer officially.
They were elected unopposed after the two posts were vacated by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar respectively. Jay Shah is currently the President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and his term has started from 1 December 2024. Meanwhile, Shelar resigned after taking oath as Minister at Maharashtragovernment.
