Tottenham have responded to reports linking captain Son Heung-min with Barcelona by activating a clause in his contract linking him to the club until 2026.

Son's current deal, signed in 2021, was for four years but included an option for Tottenham to extend it by 12 months which they did to prevent losing the 32-year-old on a free in the summer.

The potential availability of the South Korean has reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona, who are looking for cut-price options given their financial woes.

The La Liga club are also believed to be attracted to Son due to his popularity in the Far East and the potential commercial opportunities he could have brought.

Son signed for Tottenham in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen and was described by the club this morning as a “modern-day great”.

He has made 431 appearances for the club, scoring 169 goals – the fourth most in Tottenham's history.

Son, a four-time Asian Player of the Year winner, won the Premier League Golden Boot for the 2021/22 season, alongside Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, after scoring 23 goals.
