Meanwhile, Sajid Khan was named Player of the Match for his impressive nine wickets in both innings in the first Test against West Indies. He also admitted that it was a spin-friendly pitch, offering a great deal of spin and bounce, and was exploited effectively by the spinners at the Multan Cricket Ground.
Sajid Khan reflects on his match-winning performance in the first Test
βThe wicket had a lot of spin and bounce,β Sajid said in the post-match presentation. My bowling coach spoke to me and in the second innings, I bowled a little slower and didn't leak much runs as I had been bowled later in the spell in the first innings.
Nouman Ali discusses with me a lot because he has a lot of experience. We didn't want to run in the second half, which was great. I wanted to hit well. But I did the inside and outside shots, and it didn't work. Obviously the shot was not on this pitch (smiles).β
Notably, Sajid crossed the 50 Test wicket mark for Pakistan in just his 11th match. He reached the milestone with an average of 27.73, and has three four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket hauls to his name so far in the longest format of the game.
In six home Tests, Sajid took 34 wickets at an average of 31.03, including three five-wicket hauls, while he took 21 wickets at an outstanding average of 22.71 in five away Tests. Additionally, Sajid has an impressive record in first-class cricket, with 294 wickets to his name.
