Aston Villa striker John Doran will miss three matches after his failed bid to have his red card at Newcastle overturned on appeal.

The 21-year-old Colombia international was sent off after 32 minutes of the 3-0 defeat at St James' Park by referee Anthony Taylor after he appeared to stamp on defender Fabian Char, sparking an angry reaction from coach Unai Emery, who later pointed out… That the club will resume.

But their attempt failed and Duran will now face a three-match ban for violent behaviour.

A statement on Villa's official

Emery insisted after the match that the red card was not an offence, adding: “I think he did not kick him intentionally. Of course we will appeal and hopefully it will not be three games because it is a very big penalty for that action.

The striker will miss the Premier League matches against Brighton and Leicester at the beginning of the year, in addition to the FA Cup third round match with West Ham on January 10.
