Mikel Arteta hopes victory over Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup tomorrow night will provide momentum for the club to claim more silverware.

Arteta has been in charge of the Emirates Stadium for five years but has only led Arsenal to one FA Cup title in that time. Although the League Cup is not Arsenal's first priority this season, the Spaniard knows that winning is a good habit.

Speaking ahead of their quarter-final clash, he said: “I think if I win, it will create something different. This kind of game is really important. It brings belief, confidence and positive energy.

“It creates the right path to go and do something else. It gets momentum.”

“When you win, you move on and go to the next competition.

“The team always participates every three days.”

Arsenal have faced criticism for their lack of goals from open play this season and again failed to find the back of the net during a goalless draw with Everton on Saturday.

Arteta added: “The pressure comes when you are at a big club and you want to do your best.

“The frustrating part is seeing the great things we do and not getting the three points. That's football.

“We have to put the ball in the back net. There is very little to say.

“This is always the story, when you score five goals you don't talk about it. This is normal but it does not change for us.”

Arsenal will be without left-backs Oleksandr Zinchenko and Riccardo Calafiore against Palace while Declan Rice is 'fine' but may not play.
