Whether that's an option like Muhammad Al-Quds Or, indeed, a younger star Arsenal certainly need attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window following news of Bukayo Saka's hamstring injury. Likely without their star player for the next couple of months, the Gunners must discover a new attacking spark from open play rather than maintaining their reliance on set-pieces.

Adrift in Premier League In the title race, Arsenal cannot afford to make mistakes in the January transfer window and must ensure they do not allow Liverpool to enjoy a simple stroll to glory.

It's not just the current season that the Gunners are focusing on, with their sights also set firmly on the future and the signing of a young player who could play an important role in that.

According to The Scottish Sun newspaper. Arsenal have made their first move to sign Ivan Mooney from St Mirren in a move that would see the 17-year-old choose the Emirates over St James' Park and Newcastle United.

He would solve one of Arsenal's most frustrating problems.

Still an incredibly young player, Mooney has impressed in the first-team opportunities he has received at St Mirren this season and can now follow a number of emerging young players to play a role in Arteta's squad.

The likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis Skelly are two of the latest players to benefit from Arsenal's path to the first team, and Mooney could be next.

Muni is one worth watching

One goal and one assist in four Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season, Mooney looks destined to become a key man at St Mirren before moving on to bigger things elsewhere. Whether that includes a stop at Emirates remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that north London is a land of opportunity for young players.

The teenager could solve Arsenal's biggest problems too, since he is able to play as a striker and right winger to eventually give Arteta a goal-scoring solution and a natural cover for Saka.

The Spaniard has already suffered the consequences once for failing to use a substitute for an England international week, something he does not want to suffer again any time soon.

With a long month ahead of us, it will certainly be interesting to see whether clubs are waiting to pounce on Mooney or, in fact, strike early this month. As Newcastle and Arsenal compete, it is set to be one to watch.
